How to Make Creamy Whole Wheat Cereal

This creamy whole wheat cereal is delicious and easy to make. It is made with a mixture of five whole grains, raisins, dried cranberries, dried apricots and almonds. The whole grains are full of nutrients and high in fiber. The raisins are a good source of vitamin C and Calcium. Cranberries are also a good source of vitamin C and Calcium. Apricots are a good source of vitamin C and fiber. Almonds are high in protein and vitamin E. Vitamin C has been shown to prevent illnesses such as the common cold. High fiber diets have been shown to prevent cardiovascular diseases.
Ingredients
First you will need to assemble the following ingredients: one cup of five grain cereal containing a combination of oats, wheat, rye, flax seed and triticale seed, two tablespoons of natural honey, one-half of a cup of warmed, skim milk, one handful each of raisins, dried cranberries, dried, chopped apricots and sliced almonds, and one sliced banana.
Directions
Pour five cups of water in a large sauce pan. Place the pan on the stove top. Turn the heat setting to high. When the water in the pan begins to boil reduce the temperature setting to medium.
Slowly pour the entire cup of five grain cereal into the water. Stir the five grain cereal gently to mix it in the water. Continue to heat the cereal mixture over medium heat until it returns to a boil. Stir the cereal constantly while waiting for it to resume boiling. When the mixture returns to boiling allow the cereal to boil briefly. Then reduce the heat setting to simmer or low. The mixture should continue to boil slightly as it simmers. Allow the cereal to cook for approximately 15 minutes or until all of the liquid is absorbed. The mixture should be thick and creamy. When the cereal is at the proper consistency the spoon will leave a trail of space along the bottom of the pan that will slowly fill in as it is stirred.
Once the cereal has reached the proper consistency add in the two tablespoons of natural honey. The amount of honey can be adjusted to suit individual taste. Stir the honey completely into the cereal. Next add the one-half cup of warmed skim milk to the cereal and honey mixture. Stir until the milk is mixed in to the cereal.
Set aside a small amount of raisins, cranberries, chopped apricots and almonds to use as a garnish. Pour the remaining raisins in the cereal mixture and stir. Then add the cranberries into the mixture and stir. The raisins and cranberries can be added during the the cooking process if plumper fruit is desired. Next stir in the chopped apricots. Stir the almonds into the cereal. Finally stir the sliced bananas into the mixture. Spoon the cereal equally into four bowls. Garnish each bowl with the remaining raisins, cranberries, apricots and almonds.
Packed with vitamins, minerals and fiber this cereal is a hearty and healthy breakfast option.
